CAI is in year four of a five-year cooperative agreement from the Family and Youth Services Bureau (FYSB), Administration for Children and Families, to conduct a rigorous evaluation to assess the efficacy of a CAI developed curriculum, titled Development for Youth (DFY) Take Charge! The funding allows us to conduct a rigorous, random controlled pilot and evaluation of the Take Charge! curriculum to assess its effectiveness in reducing sexual risk behaviors and unplanned pregnancy among teens in foster care settings. The evaluation is being conducted by an independent evaluator, Philliber Research Associates (PRA).
CAI has partnered with nine New York City foster care agencies on this project: SCO Family of Services, St. Vincent's Services, Edwin Gould Services for Children and Families, Abbott House, Forestdale Inc, Episcopal Social Services, Jewish Child Care Association, Good Shepherd Services and The Children's Village. As part of the project's design, these nine partner agencies are implementing DFY at their sites with the assistance of CAI's DFY Project Director, Manager and Technical Advisors. At the start of the project, CAI trained facilitators at each agency to deliver the intervention and control curriculums with and coached them in group facilitation skills. CAI continues provide ongoing technical support and quality assurance activities to ensure that the implementation of the intervention and control groups is being conducted with fidelity by sites.
