Women and HIV Prevention Leadership Training
CAI was awarded a cost-sharing grant by UNAIDS and the U.S. Dept. of State Office of Cultural Exchange and Education in 2002 for a five-day Training-of-Trainer (TOT) program to be held in Jamaica. The primary purpose of this grant was to conduct a seminar in Jamaica for participants from ten English speaking Caribbean countries in order to raise HIV/AIDS awareness and improve the lives of PLWHA through leadership development, networking and increased community involvement.
A program was designed that took the goal one step further to focus on leadership development for women and early identification and prevention of maternal child transmission (MCT) of HIV.
CAI provided a training program for participants from seven different countries, with the goal of enabling PLWHA, particularly women, to take charge and advocate for themselves and others through skill building and leadership development.
