Coach (TAP-in)

CAI, a training, technical assistance, and research-to-practice nonprofit organization, is seeking a highly motivated professional for the full-time position of Coach to work with CAI’s Technical Assistance Provider – innovation network (TAP-in). The position is based in CAI’s Los Angeles Office or CAI’s Atlanta Office. We are also open to remote candidates based elsehwere in the western or southern U.S.


The TAP-in provides cross-cutting and tailored technical assistance (TA) to 47 jurisdictions (i.e., health departments) across the nation who are funded by the Ryan White HIV/AIDS Program (RWHAP) to design and implement locally tailored plans to improve access to treatment, foster retention in services, and achieve durable viral suppression for people living with HIV as part of the nation’s plan to End the HIV Epidemic (EHE). The Coach reports to the TAP-in Regional TA Lead and, using a practice facilitation coaching model and phased implementation approach, is responsible for working with a team of experts to provide and/or coordinate the provision of tailored TA for up to 8 RWHAP jurisdictions to foster strengthening and implementation of their local EHE plans. Key activities are summarized below.

MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include, but are not limited to)

  • Facilitate mutually agreed upon jurisdiction-specific TA plan through meetings with the jurisdiction, asking clarifying questions, and working with senior team members and updating annually.  
  • Identify and coordinate resources from TAP-in partners (and other federally funded sources) to support implementation of the TA plan, with the support of senior team members who connect with partners.
  • Provide pro-active and regularly scheduled coaching along with Regional Leads, grounded in process and outcome data, to foster implementation of the agreed upon TA plan.
  • In collaboration with TAP-in Director of Technical Assistance, Research and Evaluation Lead, Regional Lead, other senior team members, and TAP-in partners, support jurisdictions in using data to monitor their progress in implementation and the impact of activities undertaken as part of the jurisdictions’ EHE plans.
  • Document all TA encounters and related activities and participate, as needed, in reporting.  
  • Facilitate formal mid-course (Year 3) assessment of assigned jurisdictions to assess progress in implementation of EHE plan and adapt the TAP plan and approach based on findings, in conjunction with TAP-in Director of Technical Assistance, Research and Evaluation Lead, Regional Leads, senior team members and a multidisciplinary team.
  • On a continuous basis, share with CAI TAP-in leadership and the Regional TA Leads key observations from communications and activities with the jurisdictions to inform the TAP-in continuous quality improvement (CQI) process.
  • The Coach will facilitate linkage for jurisdictions, in collaboration with the Regional Lead and senior team members, to:
    • Existing resources to support implementation of plans
    • Expert TAP-in TA pool to provide individualized and specialized TA
    • Opportunities to participate in TAP-in learning communities, webinars, peer-to-peer support, and to TAP-in resources
    • Opportunities to broadly disseminate their successes and lessons learned
  • Working with the TA providers/partners, other TAP-in staff, and jurisdictions, support a feedback process on the provision of TA
  • Participate in professional development and training opportunities to build individual capacity to implement the practice facilitation coaching model
  • Other duties as necessary/assigned  


Expertise in HIV or mental health fields and/or experience providing technical assistance in a public health arena, preferred. Summary of requirements is provided below.

  • Master’s degree in related field, or equivalent professional experience
  • Knowledgeable and skilled in delivering coaching to adults in a professional environment
  • Strong communication, facilitation, training and presentation skills
  • Adaptability and flexibility in approach to training and technical assistance techniques
  • Experience and/or knowledgeable about methods for coaching staff to achieve performance improvement
  • Excellent documentation skills and ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable steps/plans
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team, in a fast-paced environment
  • Detail oriented, highly organized, and able to multi-task/manage multiple projects
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Spanish language proficiency preferred

The salary range for this position is $70,000 - $75,000, with excellent benefits and working conditions. Apply for this job.
