Privacy and Compliance Officer Senior Associate – Substance Use Disorder and Mental Health Services
The Center of Excellence for Protected Health Information (CoE-PHI), is seeking an experienced Privacy, Compliance or Quality Officer for a part-time or consultant role (with a possible opportunity to transition to full-time). Specifically, we are seeking a content area expert familiar with the role and function of Privacy Officers as they support their organizations and staff in applying current federal health privacy laws and regulations on the job, and specific to their task and role related to the delivery of Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and mental health services. The position is flexible in terms of hours worked per week and ability to work remotely.
Familiarity and practical experience with interpreting and applying federal health privacy laws and regulations, including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 (the federal law that protects the confidentiality of SUD treatment records) is required. Ability to work with a multidisciplinary team to translate legal and regulatory information into plain, actionable language for SUD and mental health professionals is also preferred.
MAJOR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
● Work as part of a multidisciplinary team to develop training, TA, and resource content intended to improve awareness, knowledge, and skills of Privacy Officers to train organizational staff about health privacy laws and regulations using plain language
● Triage and respond to requests for technical assistance received from Privacy Officers
● Participate as part of training team in the delivery of virtual trainings
● Manage planning and implementation of activities to continuously engage the Privacy Officer Community
● Manage activities associated with the development and updating of content of a dedicated Privacy Officer web-page
● Act in the capacity of content area expert to the CoE-PHI team and stay abreast of current federal health privacy laws and changes to laws as they relate to the role of Privacy Officers
● Plan for and participate in team meetings
● Support development of relevant reports (including funder reports)
● Support evaluation and continuous quality improvement of TTA activities
● Utilize project management database (i.e., Quickbase) to record provision of TTA and communication activities
● Other responsibilities as assigned
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS, QUALIFICATIONS, CREDENTIALS and OTHER PREFERRED SKILLS:
● Bachelor’s degree, with a minimum 5 years of experience in a Privacy/Compliance or Quality Officer role within a healthcare setting, or a JD or Master’s Degree in legal studies with at least 2 years of experience in a regulatory/compliance role within a health care setting.
● Experience developing technical assistance resources and tools and training content strongly preferred.
● Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office tools.
● Excellent verbal and written communications skills necessary.
● Ability to work as a part of a multi-disciplinary team.
