Trainer, Leadership Training Institute

CAI, a training, technical assistance and research-to-practice nonprofit organization, is seeking a skilled and highly motivated professional for the full-time, exempt position of Trainer for CAI’s NYC office to provide expert training and assist in the development of training designs, training materials and curriculum for the Leadership Training Institute (LTI). LTI supports the long-term employability of people living with HIV, Hepatitis C (active or cured), practicing harm reduction or using PrEP for prevention, with a focus on financial and economic self-sufficiency by operating as a component of the New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute certification process that enables graduates to become eligible for employment in peer-based programs. The curricula supports training in current relevant topics to address self-management of chronic conditions, HIV, Hepatitis C, Harm Reduction, PrEP/PEP; with a special focus on transitioning from peer to employee. We are seeking candidates with shared lived experience in any of the areas mentioned above, with preference for bi-lingual (English/Spanish speaking) candidates to support the audiences we train.

Major tasks and responsibilities (include, but are not limited to)

  • Translate personal knowledge and expertise into practical, skills-based training programs.
  • Deliver CAI training courses to a defined level of quality.
  • Prepare coursework to utilization guidelines.
  • Proactively manage training time to individual utilization targets, including seeking opportunities to increase training time.
  • Maintain a repertoire of no less than 3 “standard” CAI training programs.
  • Identify and pursue cross-training opportunities to expand course repertoire.
  • Assist with the designing of training programs and training materials.
  • Co-train with other staff trainers and/or consultants as needed.
  • Assist with the development of training curricula.
  • Design and deliver custom courses for “tailored’ CAI training programs and adjust for specific audiences.
  • Participate in advisory groups, focus groups, needs assessment activities, etc. as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and current records of all training activities.
  • Participate in all continuous quality improvement activities, including debriefing of every training event.
  • Participate in project outreach, marketing and recruitment.
  • Screen LTI training applicants, submit registrations, follow-up through final confirmation.
  • Follow up with LTI peer mentors for supervision; maintain mentor report logs and tracking documents.
  • Check in with LTI mentees at designated intervals.
  • Other duties as necessary/assigned.

Minimum education, experience, and other required skills

  • Bachelors degree (or advanced degree) and/or 2 years combined (training and field) experience in a related field.
  • Expertise in at least 50% of content & course topics.
  • In-depth knowledge in at least one of the course content areas.
  • Excellent training, classroom presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, as well as oral & written communications skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Flexibility of schedule.
  • Adaptability and flexibility in approach to training techniques.
  • Public presentation and presence.
  • Strong planning skills, organized, detail-oriented and ability to multi-task.

Other requirements

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $60,000 – $70,000. CAI offers a generous benefits package including:
