We are appalled by the U.S. Supreme Court decision allowing states to ban abortion. This decision is flat-out wrong, and its impact will be devastating to millions of people. Access to abortion is essential for women’s health and fundamental rights.
For 40 years, CAI has worked to ensure that everyone has access to reproductive health care, including abortion, and that everyone has agency to make their own health care decisions. We know that many people across this country have not had full access to abortion for decades, particularly people who are poor, Black, and Hispanic, as well as broader populations in states where politicians have eroded access to care for years. We have seen firsthand the deep disparities in access to abortion and other health care services, and we have worked side-by-side with our partners at the local, state, and national levels to pursue equity.
We want to be absolutely clear: This work continues, and it is more urgent and necessary than ever. We join millions of people in feeling deep sadness and anger about this ruling and its consequences. And we join our partners in the reproductive health, rights, and justice movement in vowing to do everything we can to fight it.
As for our staff at CAI, we are committed to ensuring that all staff have access to the full range of abortion care services. To this end, we are working to ensure that any staff member can obtain access to safe abortion, no matter where they live.
