CAI is dedicated to transforming health care and social services for communities in need, using education, research, and community-driven solutions to elevate women’s health and leadership worldwide. Founded and led by women and dedicated to improving health care and social services for all populations, CAI has remained a leader in advancing women’s health and family planning for over 45 years.

Since 1979, CAI has championed women as decision-makers in their care. We have developed dozens of women-centered programs in areas such as reproductive health; maternal and infant health care; sexual and intimate partner violence prevention; breast cancer prevention; HIV and STI prevention and treatment; clinical best practices; and managing post-traumatic stress. Many of these programs have set the standard of care adopted by state and federal agencies, been replicated nationally and internationally, or evolved into self-sustaining organizations.

CAI has consistently invested in women by strengthening both their personal skills and their communities. Through direct service delivery, CAI equips women with the knowledge and confidence to take charge of their health. For example, our LifeForce: Women Fighting AIDS initiative trained HIV-positive women to become peer educators, creating a ripple effect of knowledge and support that has reached other women in their communities.

CAI’s peer-led breastfeeding programs, maternal mental health training, and substance use prevention initiatives are just a few examples of how it trains women to support one another in overcoming obstacles to good health outcomes. In addition, CAI works closely with healthcare providers to improve skills in behavioral health care and effective outreach to high-risk women, ensuring they receive comprehensive reproductive, prenatal, and whole-of-life care.
